2025 Mahoning SWCD Election Notice

 

Mahoning County, OH – The following individuals have been nominated as candidates for election to the Mahoning SWCD Board of Supervisors for a three-year term commencing January 1, 2026. Each candidate is 18 years of age or older upon commencement of the term and resides within Mahoning County.

  • Matthew Monus
  • Dr. Fred Owens

There are 2 nominees for 2 positions to be filled during the 2025 election voting period.

SWCD Election Information

  • Election Voting Period: October 6 – November 4, 2025
  • Annual Meeting & Voting: Wednesday, October 29, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Austintown Library

Meet the 2025 Candidates

Matthew Monus

Matthew Monus is an engineer with GPD Group in Akron and has worked as an engineer since 2004, focusing on site development, grading, stormwater management, permitting, and erosion control. He holds several certifications in soil and water management.

Before joining GPD in 2017, Monus spent eight years with Navarro & Wright Consulting Engineers, based in Pittsburgh. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Youngstown State University. Matthew lives in Boardman with his wife and two children.

Dr. Fred Owens

Dr. Fred Owens is a professor emeritus at Youngstown State University, where he taught telecommunications and business courses for many years. Twice named Distinguished Professor, he also served as chair of the Department of Communication from 1983 to 1998.

Dr. Owens is the author of several textbooks and research articles on communication and organizational behavior. His academic and leadership experience continues to enrich the community through his service.

The Mahoning SWCD thanks both candidates for their commitment to conservation and community leadership. Their experience and dedication will strengthen the district’s mission to protect soil, water, and natural resources throughout Mahoning County.
