Agricultural Equipment for Rent; Time to Prepare Your Crops, Foodplots, Gardens
Mahoning Soil & Water Conservation District has agricultural equipment available to rent. Whether county residents are looking to maintain or establish row crops, food/pollinator plots, lawn seeding, or gardens, Soil & Water’s district office provides rental equipment and its staff can provide guidance and technical assistance.
“We’re hearing about more and more people wanting to start their own gardens during these challenging times, so they can avoid the weekly trip to the grocery store for fresh produce,” said Kathleen Vrable-Bryan, district administrator. “However, many don’t have the appropriate equipment to get started. We’re glad to be that resource to meet the agricultural needs for the outdoor enthusiasts or the homeowners just getting started.”
Rental equipment includes:
- 7’ HayBuster No Till Drill – Perfect for smaller agricultural acreage for pasture seeding, row crops and cover crops, as well as food plot establishment. A minimum 50hp tractor with hydraulics is required to operate this drill. *FERTILIZER NOT PERMITTED FOR USE
- Tufline Broadcast Spreader and Cultivator – These are ideal for food/pollinator plot establishment, lawn seeding and garden preparation. They are intended for use with smaller ATVs and garden/lawn tractors. A 2-inch ball hitch is necessary to operate these two pieces of equipment. *FERTILIZER NOT PERMITTED FOR USE
- King Sprayer – This 25-gallon unit is battery operated and runs on alligator style clamps connected to your power source. It’s intended for use with smaller ATVs and garden/lawn tractors. A 2-inch ball hitch is necessary for transportation. The unit comes with a handheld wand sprayer and/or a small 4-inch boom (will need to calibrate each for desired application rate). Ideal for garden/food plot/pollinator plot, seed bedding, pre-planting preparation and invasive control. *FOR HERBICIDE USE ONLY
“Now is not only the time to establish your early food plots, but also to develop your mineral sites,” said Blaine Winger, agricultural specialist and district technician. “Your wildlife friends need extra vitamins and minerals for their lactating needs to help feed the young and promote early antler development. So, when you’re establishing your food plots, remember to also establish your mineral sites to help promote healthy wildlife!”
