Boardman places 1st at 2024 Area 2 Envirothon

The Mahoning SWCD is thrilled to announce the victory of the Boardman Local School District’s team, the Boardman Channel Cats, at the 2024 Area 2 Envirothon, outscoring 43 competing teams.

The event, hosted by the Wayne Soil and Water Conservation District at the Kidron Community Center and Park, was a resounding success thanks to the hard work and dedication of all involved. The Boardman Channel Cats, under the guidance of Advisor Heather Moran, demonstrated exceptional expertise and teamwork throughout the competition.

Joining the Boardman Channel Cats in their success are the following top-placing teams:

  • Southeast Maroon from Portage County, Southeast HS, Advisor: Carl Sondereker
  • EnviroQueens from Portage County, Theodore Roosevelt HS, Advisors: Chris Carman, Julia Ferrando, and Eva Frank
  • Columbiana Red from Columbiana County, Columbiana HS, Advisors: Colleen Campbell and Austin Saverko

These teams have earned the privilege of advancing to the State Competition in June, to be held at Hocking College. The State Envirothon, scheduled for June 3-5, 2024, in Athens County, will determine the State Envirothon Champion, who will then proceed to the prestigious North American competition, the NCF Envirothon, held annually in the US or Canada.

Congratulations to all the participating teams, volunteers, and organizers for their dedication to environmental education and conservation. The results of the 2024 Envirothon Competition can be viewed here.
