Deadlines Extended To Apply For USDA Programs

Deadlines Extended to Apply for USDA Programs

The Mahoning County Soil & Water Conservation District is advising local farmers, landowners and other agricultural producers of extended deadlines to apply for two government programs that provide financial and technical assistance.

The USDA is extending the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) General Signup period to Sept. 30, 2021. The program, administered by USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA), provides annual rental payments for 10 to 15 years for land devoted to conservation purposes, as well as other types of payments. Before the General CRP Signup period ends, producers will have the opportunity to adjust or resubmit their offers to take advantage of planned improvements to the program. All interested producers are encouraged to contact their FSA County office for more information.

The deadline to apply for the USDA Quality Loss Adjustment Program has been extended to Friday, April 9. This program assists producers who suffered crop quality losses due to qualifying 2018 and 2019 natural disasters. For more information, visit this link.

The Mahoning SWCD helps farmers and landowners by assessing and performing inventories of environmentally sensitive areas and assisting with best management practices. District technicians perform inspections and help landowners identify which government programs suit their needs.
