Mahoning SWCD Announces Spring Fish Sale

Mahoning County, OH – The Mahoning Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is excited to announce its upcoming spring fish sale, aimed at promoting water quality and assisting pond and lake owners in the region. This event is scheduled for Thursday, April 3rd, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Canfield Fairgrounds, located at 7265 Columbiana Canfield Rd.

The sale will feature a variety of fingerling-sized fish, including fathead minnows, largemouth bass, bluegill, hybrid bluegill, channel catfish, red-ear sunfish (shell cracker), yellow perch, white amur, and Japanese koi. In addition to fish, the sale includes fish food, pond conditioner, and pond maintenance books.

Please note that prices have increased this fall. Orders must be submitted to the district office by Friday, March 28th. To place an order, contact the district office by phone at (330) 740-7995 or via email at askswcd@mahoningcountyoh.gov. The order form can be found here.

On the day of pick-up, participants must bring enough containers to hold the purchased fish. Five-gallon buckets with unscented poly liners (30-gallon trash bags) are recommended. The bags are essential to hold oxygen and keep the fish alive during transport. Fenders Fish Hatchery will not supply containers! Do not use a lid; instead, use a twist tie or twine to close the bag. Each container should be filled with customer pond water, but only one-third full. As a general rule: one container per 100 small fish, one container per 1,000 minnows, and one container per 4-5 amurs and koi. Customers are kindly asked to assist with loading and unloading their containers into their vehicles at the delivery site to help streamline the delivery process.

For additional information, to place an order, or for stocking and pick-up recommendations, please contact the district office by phone at (330) 740-7995 or via email at askswcd@mahoningcountyoh.gov.

Don’t miss this opportunity to enhance your pond or lake with a diverse selection of fish while supporting local water quality initiatives.
