Mahoning SWCD Brings STEM Learning to YSU Game
Mahoning County, OH – Mahoning County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) brought hands-on learning to the court on Sunday, November 16, during STEM Day at the Youngstown State University Women’s Basketball game. As the Penguins faced off against Bucknell, attendees were invited to visit the SWCD education table for an interactive look at watersheds and stormwater science.
Staff showcased the EnviroScape model, a popular demonstration tool that shows how water moves across the landscape—and how everyday actions can contribute to or help prevent nonpoint source pollution. Families, students, and young learners had the chance to explore real-world STEM concepts, ask questions, and discover how they can help protect local waterways.
The event blended education with school spirit, giving visitors the opportunity to learn about environmental stewardship while cheering on the Penguins.
Mahoning SWCD continues to prioritize community outreach through engaging programs that connect residents of all ages to conservation, water quality, and local natural resources.
