Mahoning SWCD Launches Stream Team Initiative to Protect Local Waterways
Mahoning County, OH – Mahoning County is taking an important step in protecting its waterways with the launch of the Mahoning County Stream Team, an initiative led by the Mahoning County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD). This new volunteer-based program aims to engage local residents in water quality monitoring efforts to help preserve the health of the region’s streams.
The program will offer Water Quality Monitoring Training sessions, where participants will learn about watershed health, stream monitoring techniques, and how to assess water quality. Volunteers of all ages will be trained to collect data that will help identify trends and potential issues regarding the quality of local waterways.
Join Us for the Next Training on April 16
A hands-on training session is scheduled for April 16th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Yellow Creek Park. During this session, participants will have the opportunity to sample macroinvertebrates (aquatic insects) to assess stream health—an important indicator of water quality.
This free training session is open to anyone interested in conservation and eager to make a positive impact on their local environment. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
To register, participants can scan the QR code on the flyer or sign up using the registration link. Alternatively, they can email zachary.felger@mahoningcountyoh.gov or call 330-740-7995 for further information.
By joining the Mahoning County Stream Team, volunteers will acquire valuable skills in environmental monitoring and play a key role in protecting the community’s waterways.
