MSWCD Receives Grant from Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley

The Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is delighted to announce that it has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Rick Shale Fund, a component fund of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.

This grant will play a crucial role in launching the Mahoning SWCD Surface Water Management Program, a strategic initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and conservation practices in Mahoning County.

“We are immensely grateful to the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley for their generous support,” said Zack Felger, District Outreach and Education Specialist of the Mahoning SWCD. “This grant will enable us to implement essential strategies for managing surface water effectively and fostering a culture of conservation stewardship in our community.”

The Mahoning SWCD Surface Water Management Program will focus on promoting initiatives to motivate and support residents in the installation of approved stormwater management and backyard conservation solutions on their properties, offering reimbursement of up to $500 for the installation of Best Management Practices (BMPs) or approved conservation projects. Eligible projects include rain gardens, permeable pavement, rain barrels, biofiltration practices, turf reduction, dry wells, conservation scholarships, and other accepted BMPs by Mahoning SWCD.

These efforts align with the SWCD’s mission to protect natural resources, enhance environmental sustainability, and educate the community about conservation practices. “We are excited about the positive impact this program will have on Mahoning County,” added Felger “We look forward to working with the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley and members of the community to make a meaningful difference in environmental conservation.”

The Mahoning SWCD extends its sincere thanks to the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley for their belief in the district’s mission and their commitment to environmental stewardship.
