Watson Elected to Mahoning SWCD Board of Supervisors

 

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Jarid Watson of Poland was recently elected to the Mahoning County Soil & Water Conservation District’s board of supervisors after winning an election for the seat in November. Richard Scarsella (left photo, above) and Jarid Watson (right photo, above) were vying for the seat.

Watson is the co-founder of Calliope Media, a video production company. Watson is a former U.S. Air Force combat correspondent with extensive experience in public affairs, video and audio production, and storytelling. He is currently studying counseling psychology at Chatham University.

Watson will serve a three-year term beginning on January 1, 2024. The Board of Supervisors plays a crucial role in creating and enforcing policies, as well as determining the strategic planning and goals of the Mahoning Soil & Water Conservation District. Additionally, the board members act as ambassadors for the district within their respective communities.

Scarsella will continue to serve as an associate member of the board of supervisors. Although he won’t have voting authority on district matters, he will provide valuable guidance to the board in shaping the district’s strategic planning and goals.

The Mahoning County Soil & Water Conservation District advances best management practices for conserving land and water resources by providing education, technical assistance and stewardship. Established in 1950, the district is staffed by a small team of environmental professionals who lead efforts in community and school outreach, agricultural project support, stormwater control, watershed protection, pond management and more. The district maintains their office at 850 Industrial Road in Youngstown.
